I have tried to see the immigration problem on both sides, honestly I have, in fact, I am one. Came in ilegaly and have some very conservative beliefs on this issue and some very liberal in others. I definition of America surprised me, but somerthing caught my eye when I read the definition of American and a word seddenly jumped out at me and, well , I can't explain it. I was suddenly hit with a memory from school. "3: a citizen of the united States," is what I read and remember getting a few citenship awards and I have heard my little girl recite a citizenship pledge, can't remember it all, but says something about being a good citizen and helping others being one and being honest and true. Are we being the best Americans we can!? Are ilegal imigrants criminals?
I was watching a report on ABC, What Would You Do, yeah one of those left-winged channels, and started thinking about the issue once again. We are a country of immigrant afteral, but if we continue in this rollercoaster ride where will we expand to, I only see up. Stricdtly speaking by definition, ilegal immigrants are criminals, but only of being here iligaly and should not be treated like they don't exist, thery are people, dads, moms, sons, brothers, sisters, etc. They are here already and deserve respect, this said, simply giving them amnesty is not righrt either, specially with so many already here that have waited years to become legal residents and citizens. "Get in here legaly," sounds easy enough but it really is not and for some people it truly is a matter of life and death or survival! What should we do? Lock the gate and keep them out?
Are legals and ilegals so different? If so please educate me because I have been on both sides odf the fence and sure I have beliefs on both sides of the argument, but to mistreat ilegals or discriminatre agaisnt them is also a crime, so are we all gto become criminals?
I do think I knwo what it means to be a citizen, and American, and hopefuly I remember how to be human!
